Domaine Foray is an independent artist residency in Villecien, Burgundy, 1h15 from Paris by train. Artists of every discipline come for micro-residencies: stays of a few days to several months, all year round, with a private room, 230 m² of studios (recording, painting, wood and metal), a communal kitchen, and breakfast and dinner at a shared table.
Foray is half artist residency, half guesthouse. The guesthouse part-funds the residencies, which keeps the cost for artists low. Painters, scriptwriters, musicians, dancers, digital artists and nomads have all worked here.

Four ways artists use Foray. Every residency shares the same house, table and studios, so mix them as your project needs.
Music & recording residency
A residential recording studio: UAD Apollo 8 control room, drum room, vocal booth and acoustic piano, 1h15 from Paris.
Writing residency
A quiet room with a desk over the valley, a library, fibre internet and dinner cooked for you. For authors, screenwriters and translators.
Visual arts residency
A painting studio and a large wood & metal workshop, tools, raw materials and room to work big, inside and out.
Film & photography residency
Hone a script, edit, score with a composer in the studio, shoot in the house and grounds. With a private cinema.
Dance, performance and everything else
Dancers, performers and digital artists are welcome too: the 200 m² Grand Hall, the yoga space and the garden give you room to move and rehearse. If your practice isn't listed, it's still invited. Tell us what you need.
What is a micro-residency?
A micro-residency is a short, flexible artist residency. Instead of a fixed three-month programme, you come for the time your project needs: a long weekend to unblock a draft, a week to record, a month to build a body of work. You can come back as often as you like.
Micro-residencies run all year at Foray, so you can fit one around work and life, and Paris is close enough to come and go. We also run dated multidisciplinary sessions, for artists who'd like to be in residence alongside others.
Your hosts
Foray is run by Lena Deschamps Peugeot, a producer and immersive experience designer, and Jamie Turner, a musician and composer. Together they foster a community of artists, art-minded travellers and digital nomads, and promote art in all its forms as a tool for social connection and change.
Foray is their home as well as a playground to experiment, create and show what the arts can do to revive a place.
Every residency includes
- A large private room with a double bed, wardrobe, desk and private bathroom with a bath, overlooking the garden or the Yonne valley
- Access to all 230 m² of studios and to every space in the house
- Breakfast, local and mostly plant-based
- Dinner at the shared vegetarian table, pay what you can
- The spacious communal kitchen, for self-catered lunches
- Fibre internet, a printer and a laundry
- Ten acres of garden between the river and the forest, and six electric bikes
Fees & funding
Most residencies at Foray are not grant-funded, so the artist covers the logistics of their stay. Since 2025, the guesthouse side of Foray has part-funded the residencies, which keeps those costs greatly reduced.
The cost depends on the programme and the length of your stay: the longer you stay, the lower the daily cost. It also depends on how much care you need, for example if you'd like lunches cooked for you.
We're happy to help you apply for a grant or other third-party funding, with advice and documentation, and we're open to organising a workshop, show or event on site to help finance your stay.

How much does an artist residency at Foray cost?
Residencies are part-funded by Foray's guesthouse, so artists only cover reduced logistical costs. The cost depends on the programme and the length of your stay (the longer the stay, the lower the daily cost) and on how much care you need. How long can I stay?
From a few days to several months. Micro-residencies run all year, and you can come and go according to your needs and availability.
Who can apply?
Creatives from any existing or invented discipline, at research or creation stage: musicians, writers, visual artists, filmmakers, photographers, dancers, digital artists and more. There's no status requirement; we ask for a short project description, a bio and links.
How do I get to Foray from Paris?
By train in about 1h15: two stops, via Sens to Joigny (or Saint-Julien-du-Sault), then bus L802 to the 'Abri Cimetière' stop. By car, Foray is 10 minutes from exit 18 of the A6. By bike, follow the Yonne on the V55 greenway.
Can you help with funding?
Yes. We provide advice and documentation to help you apply for a grant or other third-party funding, and we're open to organising a workshop, show or event on site that can help finance your stay.
Is Foray a residency or a hotel?
Both. Foray is half artist residency, half guesthouse: artists in residence and B&B guests share the house, the garden and the dinner table. It's what keeps residencies affordable, and it makes for a great shared table.
