Film & photography residency in Burgundy
Foray's film and photography residency is for filmmakers and photographers who need time to write, edit and shoot. Filmmakers come to hone scripts, edit projects and work with composers in Foray's recording studio; photographers come to shoot and to edit. There's a private cinema, a photography-themed bedroom, and a house and grounds between river and forest to work in.
You live on site in a private room, 1h15 from Paris by train, with breakfast and dinner at the shared table.

Write, edit, score, shoot
Filmmakers have come to Foray to hone scripts, edit projects and work with music composers for their films. The recording studio on site has scored the Venice Film Festival–winning Emperor and recorded director Ilan Cohen's latest short film.
For photographers: pieces by Gabriel Gomez hang on our walls and books by Linda Zhengová sit in the rooms, both previous hosts of the Photography Retreat at Foray. Foray has hosted shoots for artist profiles, and has space to edit.
To watch as much as to make: the Movie bedroom has a giant OLED screen and a selection of films curated by French director Ilan Cohen, the Reflections bedroom is built around photography, and there's a secret cinema on site, if you can find the entrance.

Every residency includes
- A large private room with a double bed, wardrobe, desk and private bathroom with a bath, overlooking the garden or the Yonne valley
- Access to all 230 m² of studios and to every space in the house
- Breakfast, local and mostly plant-based
- Dinner at the shared vegetarian table, pay what you can
- The spacious communal kitchen, for self-catered lunches

Fees & funding
Most residencies at Foray are not grant-funded, so the artist covers the logistics of their stay. Since 2025, the guesthouse side of Foray has part-funded the residencies, which keeps those costs greatly reduced.
The cost depends on the programme and the length of your stay: the longer you stay, the lower the daily cost. It also depends on how much care you need, for example if you'd like lunches cooked for you.
We're happy to help you apply for a grant or other third-party funding, with advice and documentation, and we're open to organising a workshop, show or event on site to help finance your stay.

Can I shoot at Foray?
Foray has hosted shoots for artist profiles, in the house, the Grand Hall and the grounds between the river and the forest. Tell us about your project and your crew when you apply.
Can I work with a composer during my residency?
Yes. Filmmakers come to Foray to work with composers, and the on-site recording studio has scored award-winning film. Combine a film residency with the music residency.
Is there space to edit?
Yes: every room has a desk and there's fibre internet throughout, plus quiet shared spaces to work in.
Is there a photography residency?
Yes. Photographers come to shoot and to edit, and Foray has hosted a Photography Retreat led by Gabriel Gomez and Linda Zhengová. Apply for a micro-residency, or join a dated multidisciplinary session.
